The following is a list of incidents and accidents which are known to have taken place in the South Wales region or aircraft which were on route from / to the various airfields in that region.
I have decided to try and include this "South Wales" region as bounded as St David's in the west, the Severn Bridges in the east, Bristol Channel in the south and finally around Rhayader area in the north.

07/01/1946 | PH242 | Oxford Mk.1 | Operated by No.21(P) Advanced flying unit/R.A.F Wheaton Aston. Aircraft crashed at Hay Bluff in poor weather conditions whilst on night training flight. |
15/01/1946 | HB504 | Vengeance II | Operated by 3505 Support Unit/R.A.F Rhoose. The gasket on one of the engine tappet boxes leaked oil, which sprayed onto the windscreen obscuring the pilots vision, and, at the same time, the engine began to run roughly. The pilot made a tight circuit to land, but due to his poor visibility, the aircraft stalled during the final turn to the runway and crashed. |
16/01/1946 | X4067 - named Bermuda II | Spitfire IIA | Operated by No.53 OTU/R.A.F Llandow. collided in a formation flight, X4067 cutting off the tail of P8396. X4067 made a forced landing at the Cross Farm, St Hilary and was repaired in a few days. |
16/01/1946 | P8396 - named Hissar II | Spitfire IIA | Operated by No.53 OTU/R.A.F Llandow. collided in a formation flight, X4067 cutting off the tail of P8396. P8396 crashed at Cross Farm, St Hilary killing the South African pilot. |
16/02/1946 | NV787 | Tempest Mk.5 | Aircraft departed Fairwood Common but had engine problems so an emergency landing at R.A.F St Athan was planned. Sadly aircraft hit tree at Llancadle Farm and was destroyed. |
21/03/1946 | PT766 | Spitfire LF.IX | Operated by No.595 Sqdn/Fairwood Common. Aircraft dived into ground near Bishopstown/Swansea. |
30/09/1946 | PX273 | Hornet F.1 | Operated by No.30MU. Aircraft was on flight from St Athan to West Raynham and hit hill side at high speed near Mynydd-y-glog, Rhondda Cynon Taff. |
22/07/1947 | VA302 | vVampire F.1 | Operated by No.595 Sqdn/ R.A.F Pembrey. Aircraft suffered an engine failure on take-off from Pembrey when the impeller broke up. The aircraft crashed straight ahead into sand dunes, turned over and was destroyed by fire. |
09/12/1947 | VA361 | Buckmaster T.1 | Operated by St Athan No.19 MU. Aircraft Belly landed at St.Athan after the starboard undercarriage failed to lower. |
20/10/1947 | MH504 | Spitfire LF.9 | Operated by No 595 Sqdn. Aircraft suffered an engine failure. The pilot recovered to Pembrey for an emergency landing, made downwind and into the sun. To avoid overshooting he swung the aircraft but the port undercarriage collapsed.. |
14/01/1948 | DT464 | Master T.2 | Operated by 3 Glider Training School/R.A.F Llandow. Aircraft was taxyed into a pile of soil at its base at RAF Llandow causing the undercarriage to collapse. |
11/02/1948 | SM357 | Spitfire LF.16 | Operated by No.595 Sqdn/R.A.F Pembrey. Aircraft was damaged beyond repair in a heavy landing at RAF Pembrey. |
17/04/1948 | SL675 | Spitfire LF.16E | Operated by No.614 Sqdn/R.A.F Llandow. The a/c was seen to emerge from cloud in a dive and to attempt to level off over the Bristol Channel off Barry, Glamorgan. However, the a/c struck the water and broke up, killing the pilot, Pilot Officer Howard Hughes Evans. |
17/07/1948 | SL543 | Spitfire LF.16E | Operated by No.614 Sqdn/R.A.F Llandow. The pilot forgot to lower the undercarriage and the a/c belly landed at Llandow, recat E2 on 19/11/48. |
29/10/1948 | SL579 | Spitfire LF.16 | Operated by 203 AFS.. Aircraft struck SL670 during a formation change whilst battle formation training and crashed in the Bristol Channel. |
