Page 26 - Summer Camp at R.A.F St Athan 1956

The first Summer Camp started on or about 14 June 56 and involved Austers and Chipmunks of 663 Sqn, all the way from Llandow. Noted were:

Auster AOP.6
VX121/A, VW993/B, VF525/C, VX123/E, TW528/F, VF554/G, VW994/H, VF577/K, VF523/M, VF490/P, TW530/Q, VF611/S, TW642/V, VF511/- & VF514/-
All wore the standard dk green/earth camo with white serials/codes. The coded a/c, at least, wore squadron marks either side of the fuselage roundel.

Auster T.7
WE554/J, WE612/L, WE562/N & WE571/O
Silver with yellow training bands and black codes in front of the unit marks either side of the roundel.

Chipmunk T.10
WP978/R, WK559/X, WP859/Y &
WK570/Z
Silver with yellow training bands and black codes in front of the roundel. No unit marks were carried.

The second Summer Camp involved Chipmunks and Harvards from Leeds UAS at Yeadon, arriving sometime before 27 June were:

Chipmunk T.10
WG468/44, WK582/51 & WP908/53. Leeds UAS
Silver with yellow training bands and black codes by the cockpit. Unit badge on engine cowling.
WP915/-. Leeds UAS.
Silver with blue spinner and blue flash on the fuselage. Unit badge on engine cowling.
WG403/55. Leeds UAS ?
Silver with yellow training bands and white code by the cockpit. Ex Edinburgh UAS & 22 RFS.
WD382/F, WD383/G & WG301/H. Presumably on loan from Cambridge UAS.
Silver with yellow training bands and black codes in front of the roundel. Also had blue & red fuselage stripes, CUAS badges and pale blue spinners.
WD286/-, WD384/-, WG478/-, WK622/-, WK630/Z, WP857/X & WP975/-. All presumably on loan.
Silver with yellow training bands and, when worn, black codes in front of the roundel.

Harvard T.2B
FT263/-, FX425/-. Leeds UAS.
Silver with yellow training bands, no marks
