On 1st April 1942 Defiant I AA293 of 7 AGS had an engine cut on approach causing it to crash land 1 mile south of RAF Stormy Down.
On the same day, 1st April 1942, Spitfire I K9891 of 53 OTU took off from Llandow in coarse pitch and struck P7840, damaging it beyond repair.
On 1st April 2002 PA-38 Tomahawk G-CWFC of Cardiff Flying Club crashed 2 miles West of Cwmbran. The aircraft, with two qualified private pilots on board, was en-route from Cardiff to Shobdon when it encountered deteriorating weather conditions. The aircraft turned North towards high ground several miles before the planned turning point, and hit an electricity pylon. The aircraft was destroyed and both pilots received fatal injuries.
