EVENTS for 26th August

On 26th August 1941 Spitfire I L1009 of 53 OTU ran out of fuel and belly landed at Llandow causing damage beyond repair.

Also on 26th August 1941 Spitfire I X4263 of 53 OTU dived into the Bristol Channel off Rhoose Point, 4.5 miles East of Llandow.

On 26th August 1951 Meteor T.7 WA687 of 614 Sqn touched down well up the runway at Llandow. Realising he could not stop the pilot raised the undercarriage and the aircraft overshot and slid into some small trees.

On 26th August 1993 Chipmunk T.10 WP980/E of UWAS crashed at St.Athan after it clipped a hangar during a mishandled practice engine failure and turn back after take-off.
