On 30th May 1942 Spitfire Vb AB963 of 421 Sqn suffered an engine cut. Whilst force landing at Fairwood Common it hit an obstruction on the airfield, which was still under construction, and was damaged beyond repair.
Also on 30th May 1942 Spitfire lIA P7563 of 53 OTU had its engine lose power resulting in a belly landing 1 mile South of Llantwit Major.
