On the same day, 8th September 1942, Spitfire I X4601 of 53 OTU hit a tree whilst low flying and crashed at Kathies Farm, Llangattock, Monmouth, killing the pilot.
On 8th September 1998 at 11:06 Piper PA-34-220T Seneca II G-BMDK landed with the undercarriage retracted at Cardiff Airport causing substantial damage to the underside of the aircraft, the engines and the propellers. During an approach to Runway 30 in a gusting wind, the pilot failed to lower the landing gear. Because of the anticipated turbulence, she was using a higher than normal power setting and the landing gear warning horn did not sound until power was reduced just prior to touchdown. The aircraft was repaired and is current with Air Medical Fleet Ltd at Oxford.
